Old Time Mandolin Music

What'll You Do with the Baby

What’ll You Do With The Bay is a mostly a fiddle tune with a few lyrics  I will leave it as an exercise to the reader to find lyrics to What’ll You Do With The Baby

This version of What’ll You Do With The Baby is loosely based on a version by Tommy Jarrell from from the CD The Legacy of Tommy Jarrell, Volume 4: Pickin’ on Tommy’s Porch, County Records CO-2727-CD.

Couple of things about the tune.  Two parts A and B, and both parts are shorter than the usual fiddle tune being only 4 bars that are repeated.  In Part A, I slide with my first finger from the B to the C# on the second string and play the E note on the seventh fret second string with my ring finger.  I try to get an extra Old Time sound by playing the string above as a drone with melody.  You’ll see what I mean when you look at the tab.

Here’s a couple of other versions of What’ll You Do With Baby.

-Mike Seeger and Paul Brown, Way Down in North Carolina, Rounder

-Mike Seeger and Peggy Seeger, American Folk Songs for Children, Rounder
