Shove That Hog's Foot Further In The Bed

And now, for something completely different.

Several years back, I was watching the 2000 documentary and concert film Down From the Mountain, when near the end of the film, the host John Hartford played an Ed Haley tune called "Shove That Hog’s Foot Further In The Bed".  The tune caught my ear, so I recorded it off of the DVD so I could learn it.

The tune is cast in the key of D, but played with an A major chord as the dominant chord (at least to my ear).  The tune is really in A mixolydian for you theory folks.  I guess you’d call it A modal.  Learn the tune and then see what chords you think fit the tune.  If you think there should be different chords in the tune, drop me a line.

I have not been able to find any other recording of this tune except from the DVD.  If you know  where I could find the Ed Haley version of this tune, please let me know.  There is another tune floating around in the fiddle world with a similar title ("Shove That Pig's Foot A Little Farther In The Fire"), but does not in anyway sound similar to the Ed Haley/John Hartford version.
